Grandma Stambach's Sugar Cookies

 

2 cups sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
3 eggs
1 cup sour milk (3/4 cup milk plus 1/4 cup vinegar or lemon juice)
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend sugar, butter or margarine, eggs and sour milk. Add flour, cream of tartar, vanilla, baking soda and salt. Mix well. Dough should be thick. More flour can be added to make dough stiff enough to drop by spoonsful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 minutes.
