Mint Surprise Cookies

 

1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
small chocolate mints or peppermint patties, cut into quarters
pecan or walnut halves

Cream butter or margarine and sugars. Add eggs, water and vanilla. Beat well.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well. Add to creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate at least two hours. Enclose each piece of mint or pattie in about 1 tablespoon of dough. Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Top with pecan or walnut halves. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen.
